The Secret to Cold Brew: Cold Brew Guide

Soğuk Demlemenin Sırrı: Cold Brew Rehberi

Cold brew, which has become a favorite among coffee lovers in recent years, stands out as a refreshing and caffeine-filled alternative, especially in the summer months. Unlike traditional brewing methods, this type of coffee, brewed with cold water, draws attention with its soft drink and low acidity. So what exactly is cold brew and how is it prepared?

Cold brew can be translated into Turkish as “cold brewing”. In this method, coffee beans are brewed with cold or room temperature water for a long time (usually between 12-24 hours). This slow brewing process brings out the sweet, smooth and low acidity aspects of the coffee. At the same time, this method contains less bitterness than filter coffee made with hot water, which makes cold brew more friendly to the stomach.

To prepare cold brew, you need very simple: coarsely ground quality coffee beans, cold or room temperature water and a jug or jar. A coffee-water ratio of 1:4 to 1:8 is usually used. For example, 800 ml of water is preferred for 100 grams of coffee. After mixing the coffee and water, it is sufficient to leave the mixture in the refrigerator or at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours.

After the brewing period is complete, the coffee is filtered through a filter or cheesecloth. The resulting thick coffee concentrate is usually diluted with ice and water (or milk) and drunk. Flavorings such as honey, vanilla, and cinnamon can also be added to taste. Cold brew can be consumed plain or used in various recipes, such as coffee cocktails or desserts.

In conclusion, cold brew is both easy to make and refreshing. If you like your coffee strong but smooth, cold brew may be a great alternative for you. Trying your own cold brew at home can add a whole new dimension to your relationship with coffee. Moreover, an ice-cold glass of cold brew can be the most delicious way to refresh your day on a hot summer day.
